Team performance deserved of Carlisle victory

18 March 2017

After winning the sponsors’ Man-of-the-Match award, frontman Danny Rose deflected the praise on to his team-mates following today’s 2-0 victory over Carlisle United.

Despite not being able to cap off his performance with a goal, the former Bury striker was a constant thorn in the Cumbrians’ side and left the field to a standing ovation when he was replaced by Yoann Arquin after 80 minutes.

And Rose showered his team-mates with praise after an excellent performance moved Stags to within three points of the play-off places.

“I think every man on the pitch was brilliant. The 14 players that played when the subs came on, it was a team performance to get the three points," Rose said.

“It’s (the standing ovation) brilliant but I think the lads deserve just as much praise if I’m honest with you. The clean sheet from the back five, including Keano (Jake Kean), the midfield and the top two, I thought every man was good today. It’s a very good 2-0 win.”

The Barnsley-born frontman says hard work in training paid off today as Stags found the back of the net for the first time in five games.

“We’ve had chances in a lot of games and we’ve had chances today but we were much more clinical today. Shaq [Coulthirst] and Greeny (Matt Green) took their chances really well.

“The lads have been confident, chances have been coming, we’ve been working hard in training on finishing and luckily it’s come off today.

“He gets chances, Greeny, and that’s the main thing. He’s stuck one in today so that’s good for him.

“He’s a very good finisher, Shaq. He’s come from a higher level and he’s showing his quality now in League Two.”

With eight games remaining in Sky Bet League Two, Rose says the Stags are full of confidence ahead of the trip to Morecambe next week.

“It’s League Two; it’s a battle every week. We’ve got Morecambe next week and that’s going be the exact same but we’ll go there full of confidence hoping to pick three points up.

“Everyone’s in and around us. We’ve still got each other to play. We’ve got Exeter, Luton, Stevenage, Donny to play, so we’ve got to beat them to get in and around the play-offs.

“We’ve got a very tough run-in but we’re full of confidence now and we’ll go in to Morecambe bouncing and hoping to pick three points up.”
